Ong Choon Khim holds an MSc in Sustainable Maritime Operations and is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Marine Engineer, certified by the UK Engineering Council. He is also a Fellow Member of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators (FSIArb) and a Member of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (MIMarEST). He began his career with an Advanced Diploma in Marine Engineering and a Class 1 Certificate of Competency (Motor).

With fifteen years of seagoing experience on container vessels, including two years as Chief Engineer, Ong transitioned to shore-based roles as a Marine Surveyor for Lloyd’s Register Asia. His expertise spans container vessels, tankers, bulk carriers, and superyachts, as well as casualty consultation and survey work for Hull and Machinery, P&I Clubs, solicitors, and charterers.

Ong’s deep expertise and strategic vision in the marine survey industry have led him to take on the role of APAC Hub Managing Director at Rely, where he oversees operations and drives growth across the Asia-Pacific region. His leadership ensures that Rely remains at the forefront of innovation and quality in the maritime consultancy sector.

Throughout his career, Ong has held leadership roles, including Maritime Regional Director for APAC at ABL, Principal Surveyor, and Regional Technical Manager. His work includes warranty surveys, technical consultancy, and litigation support, such as expert witness reports for legal cases involving shipyard negligence and marine casualty investigations.

In addition to his technical accomplishments, Ong has undergone specialized training in report writing and courtroom skills in England and Wales, enhancing his expertise in litigation support and arbitration within the maritime sector.
