John Gatti has an extensive career in the maritime industry, beginning as a merchant ship crew member and working his way up to the command. He later served as a pilot of the port of Genoa for 23 years, during which time he held the position of Chief Pilot for 3 years. He is an accomplished marine consultant with experience in navigation, ship rentals, and ship management.

Throughout his career, John has strived to navigate ships as efficiently as possible, while maintaining the highest degree of safety. His dedication to this goal allowed him to achieve significant career milestones, such as becoming Chief Deck Officer at 23 and commanding a 20,000 GRT tanker at 27. By age 28, he had taken command of a 52,000 GRT tanker.

In addition to his hands-on experience, John has also worked in the offices of a shipping company, where he managed rentals and oversaw the preparation of two oil tankers.He has seen all the colors of the sea, having served as a diver in the navy during the first campaign in the Persian Gulf, participating in risky operations, rescues, accidents, and receiving recognition for his contributions.

John is currently working on a project related to teaching for those interested in the maritime sector and serves as Director of Maritime Training Institutions at Seably, starting in April 2021.

He works with Rely as a master mariner consultant, with a skillset that enables VDR and AIS data decoding and analysis, including transcription of the audio conversation, reconstruction of the event such as collision, grounding or any other incident, dynamic representation on nautical charts, technical comments and advise on the incident according to International Rules such as COLREG.

His wealth of experience and expertise make him a valuable asset, not only to the Genoa (Italy) office where he is based, but to the entire Rely global team.
